Electric Power Generation Field Service Technician

What You Will Be Doing:

As an Electrical Power Generation Field Service Technician, you will be the field service support of our Caterpillar Commercial Product line. Duties will include the installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of engine and electrical related systems, Industrial and EPG start-up of generators, transfer switches, UPS, and switchgear systems.



Primary Responsibilities:

Provide customer support for on-site facilities through technical evaluations of specific application, troubleshooting, and problem solving. Repair and maintain reciprocal engine based power generation/Industrial Systems throughout the territory. Provide guidance, assistance, and training to service technicians and customers as requested. Explain and defend warranty decisions; generate and communicate service bulletins to both customers and office personnel. Communicate cost, service and reliability issues from Field to office personnel with intent of convincing appropriate departments for cost reduction and design improvements. Write full reports on findings from field service events, with clear, concise information. Communicate daily clear comprehensive field reports regarding assigned units. Represent the Power Systems group in the field. Maintain service manuals. Perform all work in accordance with established time, quality standards and safety procedures. Must be able to obtain a CDL license if required

Participate in required safety program, and work in a safe manner. Additional duties as assigned by manager.

Education/Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Three (3) years of EPG field experience or accepted alternate



Required Qualifications/Skills:

Experience with Diesel and Natural Gas Engines, Electrical Switchgear, Automatic Transfer Switches and Balance of Plant Equipment.

Good working knowledge of power generation components, power electronics, electronic controls, and fuel systems. Microsoft Office Software proficiency . Able to read electrical schematics and equipment mechanical drawings Excellence at managing Customer relationships . High level of responsiveness, and a strong proactive attitude to problem solving Ability and motivation to learn quickly. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Desire and aptitude to perform hands-on work.

What You Will Be Doing:

As a Heavy Duty Diesel Truck Technician, you will be diagnosing, troubleshooting and repairing diesel engines and components on all makes and models of on-highway diesel trucks and buses.



Primary Responsibilities:

Inspect, diagnose, troubleshoot and locate mechanical deficiencies on buses and on-highway diesel truck engines and components.

Repair and/or replace all components of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, air conditioning systems, suspension systems, drive trains, electrical systems, steering, braking, material handling, and operator comfort systems. Determine extent of necessary repairs including identifying major power-train overhaul needs and prepare orders for required services. Perform welding and brazing, fabricate and modify parts, equipment, miscellaneous structures and attachments. Complete all documentation (work orders, parts orders, inspections, warranty support, comments and time sheets) in a legible, accurate and timely manner. Perform all work in accordance with established time, quality standards and safety procedures.

Required Qualifications/Skills:

Knowledge of complex hydraulics, electrical, computer and mechanical systems, arc and oxygen acetylene welding, test equipment used to diagnose and repair equipment and electronic components of vehicles. Ability to operate a variety of equipment safely to diagnose, adjust and repair malfunctions; follow oral and written instructions; read and understand operators and repair manuals; work cooperatively with others; work with minimal supervision and keep required records. Ability to read, analyzes, and interpret technical information- schematics, technical manuals, technical drawings, technical procedures, and governmental regulations

Operate equipment and vehicles with possession of all necessary licenses and certificates. Skilled in ‘Basic’ computer applications including email and internet usage. The ability to communicate through email- sending & receiving notes, attachments.

Ability to read, analyzes, and communicate technical information. Ability to write service reports that effectively communicate required information in an understandable (clear and concise) and useable method. Ability to ask and properly respond to questions from customers and supervisors.



Preferred Qualifications/Skills:

Course work from accredited trade school, college or university with emphasis in mechanics, hydraulics, and automotive electronics is desirable.

What Will the Technician Trainee Program do for Me?

During the program you will be paired with an experienced Diesel Technician. This will allow a great deal of on the job training while you also learn about our procedures and culture. Your skills will be evaluated and technical training classes (Engines, Hydraulics, Electrical, etc.) will be determined based on your needs. Training classes take place at our headquarters in Austell, GA. After your first rotation, a comprehensive tool set / tool box will be provided for use and after a period of time the tools and tool box are yours to keep! Depending on your experience level when starting the program, you will go through 3 rotations which occur in our shops and in some cases on customer job sites. You will gain a solid understanding of the fundamentals, of how things work and begin to create an understanding of logical troubleshooting and the methodology of performing timely and correct repairs. The program will build your technical confidence through a comprehensive program of hands-on and academic orientated training, combined with real-time assessments in actual shop and work settings. This will provide experience, while you work. You may have experience from high school automotive classes, military training, college or trade school diesel technician classes or you may just have the mechanical aptitude and great work ethic that is required.
